Eduardo Valdez-Belmonte and Pompeyo Tabarez Jr. were the apparent winners for two seats on the Heber Elementary School District Board of Trustees, while the race’s two incumbents had the least votes, according to unofficial election results Tuesday night.
Four-hundred fifty-seven people voted in the race.
“I appreciate all the people that came out to vote, because they say it’s now our time to have something here in Heber and have a change,” Valdez-Belmonte said. “We’re not in the ’80s, the ’90s anymore. We’re in the 21st century. Things need to be done a different way. We need to find efficient ways to benefit the community as a whole.”
Valdez-Belmonte had 118 votes, or 25.82 percent while Tabarez had 104 votes, or 22.76 percent.
Tabarez said he would like to promote for parents and teachers to work more closely together in order to raise the school district’s test scores.
Diana Melissa Navarro Barrios had 86 votes, or 18.82 percent.
Incumbents Martha Soto had 82 votes, or 17.94 percent, and Patsy Becerra had 67 votes, or 14.66 percent.
