HOLTVILLE — The design and engineering for a recreational trail near the Alamo River was awarded Monday to Mia Lehrer and Associates for about $134,000 by the City Council.

About $430,000 was allocated by the state Department of Parks and Recreation for the construction of a half-mile of trail along the Alamo River, according to a report to the City Council.

The redevelopment agency also committed $58,700 to the project, according to the same report, but since RDA funds are no longer available, the city will use local transportation account funds instead.

Mia Lehrer and Associates is just in charge of the design, said City Manager Alex Meyerhoff, which is a three-month process.

Renovation for bridge on SR115

On a separate but related item, the City Council awarded the renovation design of the bridge on State Route 115 that crosses the Alamo River to the Holt Group.

Funding for the program is coming mostly from the California Department of Transportation. Phase one is the preliminary engineering planning which has a cost of $125,000, according to the report to the City Council, of which $25,000 are matching LTA funds.

Once Caltrans approves the plans, the city will proceed to bidding and construction phase, the report reads.

The project has been on the Regional Transportation Plan and the city’s capital improvement list for the past three years, said Meyerhoff.

Improvements will include erosion control methods for the area, according to a report, and submission to Caltrans is expected in late April.
