On April 25, a media day was held with representatives from Ronald McDonald Charities visiting KXO and Univision Channel 7 in El Centro.

George Gale of KXO interviewed Chuck Day, CEO of Ronald McDonald Charities; Chuck expressed his appreciation to all the volunteers in the Imperial Valley for both their time and donations. He explained the working of RMH and the services provided to the family members. Sandy Camarillo, CFO, was also present and made sure we met all of our media appointments on time.

Norma and Felix Jimenez, parents of a child with spina bifida, expressed their gratitude for the care they receive at Ronald McDonald House while their son was hospitalized. Being able to sleep just a few steps away from him, shower, eat and visit with other parents with sick children provided much-needed support and strength. Norma has been at RMH 10 times since July 2010 while her baby was hospitalized. Felix’s final words were, “Thank you and God bless you.”

Jo Ann Weissman added the need for RMH and that 20 to 25 percent of the people who use RMH are from the Imperial Valley. We are currently working on our main fundraiser of the year, Red Shoe Day, May 16. Services provided at RMH are free.

George Gale was able to share information about RMH before the interviews and put everyone at ease. Thank you, George.

We then went to Univision Channel 7. Abraham Retana interviewed Maracella Canales, the mother of a premature baby; she shared about the care she received the three months her baby was in the hospital. The baby is doing fine now. Karina Rodriguez, a supervisor with McDonald’s restaurant also explained her involvement with RMH. The interview was taped for viewing on Saturday and Sunday at 6 p.m. on Channel 7. Abraham did such a great job, the interview, which was eight minutes long needed only one take. The interview was conducted in Spanish. Thank you, Abraham.

Saturday, (patrons will) 15 percent off (their) bill at Chili’s Restaurant by mentioning Ronald McDonald; again on May 8 at Johnny Carinos and again on May 16 at Famous Dave’s.

A big thank you to everyone for all of your support.
