I am writing this letter in support of Calexico City Council member, and school board trustee, Joong Kim. As a longtime resident of Calexico, I can assure you that Mr. Kim has always been a well-respected man of great integrity. His numerous years as a Calexico business owner and merchant have proven that he has a loyal following in the community, as well as deep investments. He has always conducted himself in a manner that is respectful of people, no matter what their age, nationality, or gender.
It is therefore appalling, to me and many other supporters, that Mr. Kim be censured over so-called improper conduct by some of the members of the Calexico school board. Their claims are not only false, but they exemplify the “dirty politics” that have traditionally been a part of the Calexico political scenery. It is furthermore reprehensible that Mr. Kim was censured at a meeting in which he was not able to be present. These allegations are absurd, and given the current political climate, are only taking time away from the real issues that need to be addressed.
Anyone who knows Mr. Kim can see that he is fighting hard to improve the community and quality of life in Calexico. Unfortunately, some people just want to keep things the way they have always been: dirty and stagnant. I believe that the city of Calexico needs to clean up its act, and start treating all of their constituents with the dignity and respect they deserve.
