After reading El Centro Mayor Sedalia Sanders’ response to our two previous letters regarding Fire Station 3, we feel the need to respond.
While we appreciate that the city took the time to respond to our request for answers, the response lacks focus on the one issue that must be addressed. That issue is that the request for proposal was written in such a limited fashion that it excluded local contractors from being able to bid on the job.
The City Council needs to take the time to review the RFP to see for itself the provisions that allowed this project to be built with less than 1 percent of the work going to local contractors. Then it needs to take action to see that this does not happen again.
