Why does Dr. James Thompson keep the east side of his animal hospital parking lot in almost total darkness? He has two vapor light fixtures up, but they are nonfunctioning. Last week when my wife was there after a pet consultation and as she was loading the car, a homeless man approached her demanding money from her. She said it was very dark in between two vehicles and she was extremely frightened. Can the doctor have the parking lights repaired to protect his customers? — Concerned for Wife, Imperial

The first thing Dr. James Thompson, owner of El Centro Animal Clinic, said to us was, “This is first I’ve heard about it.”

He said no one has come into his office to report the dark parking lot or whether there is an outage in the lights.

So, he said he wonders where the question and concern are coming from if it’s not something brought up with his office staff first.

We can certainly respect that opinion. Sending multiple letters to Probe is one way to deal with this, and simply reporting the situation to the doctor’s front desk is another, and we’ve found Thompson and his staff to be receptive.

We must say, however, on this particular day that we called, Thompson didn’t seem pleased to be having this conversation.

Without admitting there is a light out in the parking lot, he said he would call an electrician to check on it. We asked when that would happen, and again he seemed annoyed, but acquiesced that he would have someone call on it the afternoon we talked with him, which was Wednesday.

Thankfully nothing happened to the letter writer’s wife beyond a little scare.
