Thursday’s article about the baby born at the Imperial Valley Mall should have credited Gerhaldine Higuera with the baby’s delivery. The nurse quoted in the story did not enter the picture until the baby was already out of the womb. It’s true that Gerhaldine was panicking and needed all the help she could get, but it was her hands that guided the baby out. I just want that accomplishment to be given to the right person and don’t want any inconsistencies to mar what I consider to be a beautiful event. — Proud Mom, El Centro

Why is it that Dogwood Elementary does not employ a full time nurse? From what I understand they have a nurse come visit once or twice a month. Kids get hurt, it’s part of being a kid, and we need certified medical staffing from the time the bell rings in the morning until it rings for dismissal. I understand most teachers should be CPR certified, but that just doesn’t cut it. — Concerned, Heber

A few weeks ago Virginia Calsada-Medina, the principal of Calipatria High School, who has more than 20 years of experience there, was reassigned to Bill E. Young Jr. Middle School. Last night there was a special board meeting to reassign Marisa Gate-Muse, one of the guidance counselors at CHS with more than 20 years of experience. There were students at the board meeting to protest the reassignment. They brought petitions but the board was silent and didn’t respond. The likely outcome of this situation will be that Joe Derma and Alfonso Derma will be reassigned to the high school. The board seems to think that there is a discipline problem at the high school that these two men would be better able to deal with. I think there is a discipline problem and it’s due to the fact that the district has been steadily cutting resources to the high school. They have gotten rid of many extracurriculars. They also reassigned the lead teacher in charge of discipline, Jose Imperial, after complaints about his policies. They never replaced him. I think there is a lot of stuff going on in the district and people deserve to know about it. I think the intentions of the board members should be made public. — Community Member, Calipatria

Why does Heber Public Utility District continue to charge a municipal online payments fee? I was told this would be temporary, but it has been going on since the inception of paying online. This is the only convenient way to pay unless you take cash to the office, because if you give them a check it could take weeks to cash, or if you use your bank to pay online it takes weeks for them to process payment and you are charged late fees. — Looking for Help, Heber

The new Highway 111 was already completed almost a year ago. All the big trucks are supposed to use the new Highway 111 but instead are using Highway 86 and Adams Avenue in El Centro. Still to this day, the big trucks are using Adams Avenue. I have been located on Adams Avenue since 2006, and when these trucks pass through here it shakes the whole building like an earthquake. Can you please find out when these trucks will be stop using Adams Avenue? – Shaken up, El Centro

This week I flew with the new airline based at Imperial Airport, SeaPort Airlines, to San Diego. I was somewhat alarmed that they asked my body weight at check-in to “balance,” the airplane. It was explained that this was required by law, so I told my weight. However, as I walked off I could hear my weight being repeated twice more out loud and “sit them there, they are big.” It hurt my feelings, and it was a sad way to start my trip. Could they not be more sensitive? It was a man and woman, and the man was named Eddie. — Not-so-friendly skies, Imperial

I was wondering what is up with the Remembrance Wall at the Pioneers Museum? It has been more than a year since money was donated in memory of a loved one. It took nine months for a plaque to be made and then it was incorrect due to an assumption of a volunteer. We were promised it would be up by February and by April there was still no plaque. Our family donates a lot of money to this museum. Is it too much to ask that a $3 nameplate be put up in a timely manner — not 15 months later. — Frustrated, El Centro

When will someone from the city of El Centro fix the left turn signal on Cruickshank Drive? If there (are) more than four cars, you can’t make the turn in time. Then, even if there are no cars coming in either direction, you (sit) there for about 3 1/2 minutes. This is a waste of gas, just (sitting) there and not being able to turn left. — Waiting in El Centro

When is the city of Brawley going to complete Wildcat and Panno streets? I see people walking and using motorized wheel chairs on Highway 86 and on Legion Road. Pretty unsafe! Just wondering, since the city of Brawley is now proposing a new plan for a comprehensive bike and walkway system connecting residential neighborhoods with parks, schools and future businesses? Is this a joke? How about connecting the streets to start with? Where will the funds come from? Also, I see Cattle Call Park just had another street and parking makeover. They tore up perfectly good work just completed a year ago. Where is this money coming from and who’s making the decisions on when and where it’s allocated? — Frustrated, Brawley
