Jimmer Fredette has earned yet another postseason award as he was announced the 2011 Naismith Men's College Player of the Year.
The Naismith award, the Heisman of the college basketball world, is the sixth for Fredette this year. He's already been named the NCAA Men's Player of the year by the Associated Press, Basketball Times, cbssports.com, si.com and The Sporting News, in addition to the Adolph Rupp and Oscar Robertson trophies.
Fredette is the third player from the Mountain West Conference to win the award. He joins UNLV's Larry Johnson and Utah's Andrew Bogut.
In addition to being a star player, Fredette was recognized Saturday as the most outstanding senior student-athlete with the Lowe's Senior Class award, which awards athletes based on four areas of excellence; community, classroom, character and competition. The award urges athletes to use their platform to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Fredette led BYU to the Sweet Sixteen, marking the furthest the team has gotten in the postseason since 1981. He is the top scorer in the NCAA with an average of more than 28 points per game.
