Ricky Mast is the son of former NASCAR driver Rick Mast.
But Ricky has become famous in his own right, as an internet sensation trying to win a contest in another sport -- baseball
The video Mast made is clever, quirky. With plenty of laughs. And Ricky Mast hopes it will be his ticket to the Big Apple, and a baseball diehard's fantasy.
Ricky is one of 50 finalists chosen from more than 22,000 applicants for Major League Baseball's fan cave contest. He's up against 49 other baseball fanatics trying to win the right to spend the year in New York City, watching every single game of the season.
"Interview celebrities, ball players, and then they just take the rest of the evening and watch baseball and they're getting paid for it. Ii'm just like oh, my gosh. What a dream life that is," Mast said.
One look around his home and its clear what team he roots for. The Atlanta love is thanks to a childhood on the road, growing up as the son of former NASCAR driver Rick Mast.
“Everywhere we went, no matter what hotel we were in, every hotel had TBS and the Braves were on TBS every night,” Mast said.
Ricky's first fan cave, his Braves fan cave is located here in Rockbridge but using the power of social media on his Facebook and especially his Twitter page, Ricky has been able to catch thousands of votes from across the country.
“I had a friend's family and collectively as family they voted five or six thousand times now. It has been absolutely crazy. It's been really special. It's been a lot to it,” Mast said.
Not everyone could commit half a year to watching almost 2500 baseball games. But Ricky Mast has three things going for him. Job flexibility.
“I've been in an office with my father for the last six years so actually he is encouraging this thing as much as possible. He's like get this kid out of my hair for a year please,” Mast said.
A passion for the national pastime. And the creativity to get yourself noticed.
“I just think it's the greatest game ever invented. I just love it to death,” Mast said.
All he needs now are the votes.
