The I.V. Pumas Premier FC U-15 girls’ team lost 1-0 to the Necaxa Xplosion in the Cal South State Cup round of 16 on Sunday in Lancaster.
The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, but rain caused the fields to be ruled unplayable on Saturday, pushing the action to Sunday. The Pumas went 2-1 in pool play to reach Sunday’s round of 16.
Sunday’s game was scoreless for the first 70 minutes with the Pumas controlling the action and getting more shots on goal than the Los Angeles-based Xplosion. But with 10 minutes remaining, Xplosion was able to head in a cross and take the 1-0 lead. The Pumas frantically tried to get the equalizing goal in the final minutes but were unsuccessful.
I.V. Pumas Premier FC has girls’ teams that compete in the U-15, U-13 and U-10 divisions and a boys’ team in the U-8 category. As part of the larger Chula Vista Pumas organization, the teams compete in the Presidio League based in San Diego.
