CALEXICO — The Southwest High baseball team shut out Calexico High, 3-0, in an Imperial Valley League game here Friday.

Pelon Beltran pitched a complete game picking up 13 strikeouts en route to the win.

At the plate for the Eagles, Giovanni Leon was 2-for-3 with an RBI, Tito Montano was 3-for-4 with a double and Victor Bernal was 1-for-3 with a run.

Southwest (14-9, 4-4 IVL) will host Central at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Tigers fall to Yellowjackets

BLYTHE — The Imperial High baseball team lost to Palo Verde Valley High, 6-2, in an Imperial Valley League game here Friday.

For the Tigers, Hector Melos took the loss.

At the plate, David Felix was 1-for-2 with a run and David Sanchez 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Imperial (2-7 IVL) will play in the Fred Yturralde Classic on May 12.

SOFTBALL

Scots snap Hornets streak

CALEXCIO — The Vincent Memorial High softball team beat Calipatria High, 12-2, in a Manzanita League game here Friday.

Elena Salazar got the win for the Scots picking up 10 strikeouts while going 4-for-4 at the plate with a double.

For the Scots, Daniella Martinez was 2-for-4 with two doubles and Rebecca Davis was 2-for-3 with a run.

Vincent Memorial (7-1 ML) will play at Calipatria at 3:15 p.m. Friday.

Imperial edges Holtville in extras

HOLTVILLE — The Imperial High softball team beat Holtville High, 4-3, in nine innings of an Imperial Valley League game here Friday.

For the Tigers, Ashley Caro had eight strikeouts on the rubber.

At the plate, Andrea Sotello had two hits and the game-winning RBI, driving in Michelle Torrez and Madison Tucker. Daniella Garzon and Caro all had two hits each.

Imperial (22-2-1, 8-2 IVL) will play at Southwest at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Bulldogs shut out Spartans

The Calexico High softball team beat Central Union High, 11-0, in an Imperial Valley League game Friday in El Centro.

Karla Soto pitched a complete game with five strikeouts to earn the win.

At the plate for Calexico, Claudia Gaska was 2-for-5 with an RBI, Sandra Rosilies was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Alejandra Moran was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Alani Ayala was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Julissa Serrano was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Calexico (6-4 IVL) will host Palo Verde Valley at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday.
