COMPTON — The Imperial Valley College baseball team lost to Compton College, 13-5, in a nonconference game here Thursday.

For the Arabs, Jacinto Garcia went 2-for-4 with a run. Rudy Arellano went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases. Erick Ochoa went 2-for-3 and Esau Madrigal went 1-for-2 with two runs and a home run.

IVC (5-3) will play at El Camino College at 2 p.m. today.

IVC beats San Diego Mesa, 5-4

The Imperial Valley College women’s tennis team beat San Diego Mesa College, 5-4, in a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference match at IVC on Thursday.

In singles for the Arabs, No. 1 Jessica Zuniga lost, 3-6, won, 6-2, and lost, 3-6. No. 2 Vanessa Figueroa lost 4-6, 0-6. No. 3 Priscilla Malagon lost, 3-6, won 7-6 (7-4) and 6-0. No. 4 Andrea Heredia won, 6-4, 7-5. No. 5 Elizabeth Leonhardt won, 6-0, 6-4. No. 6 Alexis Araujo won, 6-0, 6-3.

In doubles, No. 1 Zuniga/Figueroa lost, 6-8. No. 2 Malagon/Heredia lost, 6-8. No. 3 Leonhardt/Araujo won, 8-6.


GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Hornets lose to Christian, 41-31

EL CAJON — The Calipatria High girls’ basketball team lost to Christian High, 41-31, in the first round of the CIF-San Diego Section Division V playoffs here Wednesday.

For the Hornets, Taylor Salgado had 13 points, 17 rebounds and three steals. Lorena Ortiz had seven points, seven assists and four blocks. Raena Bañaga had six points, 13 rebounds and two blocks.

Calipatria ends its season 7-13 overall and finished 4-2 in the Desert League.

Tigers to play at Mt. Miguel

SPRING VALLEY — The Imperial High boys’ basketball team will play against Mount Miguel High in the second round of the CIF-San Diego Section Division IV playoffs here at 7 p.m. tonight.
