When Brandi Kalin takes on a project, watch out! Because she will give 100 percent and she won't stop until she has accomplished what she has set out to do. Whether working in her community in Brawley or working for the Imperial County Office of Education, Brandi's strength is that once she is focused on something she does not give up.
Kalin was born and raised in Holtville. She met her husband on a family camping trip to San Felipe. “There were about 30 of us who went tent camping for a weekend,” she explains. “My uncle brought a friend from work — when we got back he called me, and that was it.”
After they were married in 1996, Kalin moved to her husband’s hometown of Brawley. She started working part time for the Westmorland School District. When she was 23, she stumbled on a position that would become more than just a job for her.
“My father-in-law saw an advertisement for a position at ICOE,” says Kalin. “And with the support of the school where I was working, I applied. I started as a services assistant in the tech department, I moved into the position of technology support assistant, and now I am a technology application specialist.”
ICOE develops and maintains the financial and personnel systems used by every school district in the county and also at the Imperial Valley College. According to Lino Velarde, the Chief Information Officer of Applications Development, “the ICOE custom designs and develops these programs in house in order to meet the very unique needs of our school districts. The financial systems are continually improved to meet the ever changing needs of the school systems.”
