How to pair wine

When cooking with wine (in the food, not merely in the cook), longtime pairing advice had it to "Serve the same wine that you use in the recipe." Something about mirroring flavors, I suppose, but not always a wise suggestion, especially when, as in this recipe, so little wine is used anyway.
