90's Barber Studio Opening

Owner Raul Ortiz Jr. (middle) and his four-year-old son, alongside family and El Centro Chamber of Commerce members, participates in a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday afternoon to celebrate the opening of his barbershop, 90’s Barber Studio, located at 601 S. K Street in Imperial. The 22-year-old Imperial Valley native has been cutting hair locally for more than five years, and believes he now has a strong enough client base to open his own shop in his hometown. “Those six, seven years solid years of just working consistently, it’s barely, barely paying off,” Ortiz said. “But it’s so worth it and I’m glad I made the move.” 90’s Barber Studio currently features two barber chairs, one which Ortiz runs, as well as pedicure, manicures, nail and female hair services from other staff. The name derives from Ortiz’s love of 90’s pop culture. “It’s always just been a really big goal of mine to have my own building, to put something together where people can work together in a comfortable, family-oriented environment,” Ortiz said.
