The Calexico School District received money from Calexico on Dec. 12 to build on the campus of Calexico High School. The pool was destroyed by a 7.2-magnitude earthquake in 2010 on Easter Sunday. Since then the pool remained untouched. One CHS junior said, “They started reconstructing the pool this year and I hope it’s ready for next year.” The pool will not only be available for the high school students but also for the community of Calexico.
Calexico High School pool would charge $1 in the past to use it. Families would come with their children and teenagers with their friends would come because of the high heat that we experience in summertime. It’s a fun experience for the Calexico community. It was a very nice Olympic-size pool.
I think it’s a great idea for Calexico to have a community pool for its citizens. It’s a good idea for many reasons. For example, its citizens can use the pool for exercise. Also, the pool is something to cool us off and to have something to do during the summer. It would be helpful if they promoted swimming lessons as well, for most of us don’t know how to swim. CHS senior Mari Martinez said, “We had swimming lessons before so it’s a good idea to have it again.”
I hope people are considerate and careful with this new attraction provided for the public use. It won’t only be for citizens, but also for students at Calexico High School who will be utilizing the pool during the school year. CHS junior Francisco Lopez said, “The pool doesn’t really get my attention but it’s cool for the people that like to swim.” It would be important to take care of it so we can use it for a long time. We should also keep the pool area clean. Show some appreciation for our city. This new attraction will benefit our school and community.
