The sky was clear and the air was warm; it was a perfect day for some fun in the sun as Vincent Memorial Catholic High School hosted its annual Water Day event Sept. 13 in Calexico.

After lunch all VMCHS students were called to the field and the activities began. Mr. Eduardo Olivas, with his powerful voice, organized the class competitions and added good spirited cheer to the event.

In the tug-of-war, the sophomores, as expected, crushed all the other classes with the aid of new student, “Big” Frank Martinez. He used all his might to lead the sophomores to victory.

At the end of the day, however, there was no clear cut victor because the freshmen won the bucket challenge, the juniors won the Chee-tos challenge, and the seniors won the “fill the square” game.

After the games, the students were instructed to bring out the numerous class-colored water balloons they had prepared in order to begin the famous water balloon fight.

Every student’s heart pumped with excitement as the balloons flew through the air, hitting unlucky victims. But the best was saved for last.

The Calexico Fire Department arrived and soaked every student on the field. It was a clear, sunny day, yet the students went home soaked from head to toe.
