We are on the precipice of a new year and if you’re anything like me, you’re wondering what happened to 2016? I’m having trouble keeping track of my age (ahem, shall we say 30-something), let alone what filled the days and nights of the 16th year past 2000.

On the eve of the great Y2K crisis, a group of fellow students and myself were shored up in a kibbutz in the northern most part of Israel. I was a junior in college and while we were all a tad apprehensive about the changeover, we were mostly preoccupied with celebratory revelry. It was a time in our lives where most of us were on our way to our future. I am in touch with a few of those friends today and while we bonded over the days exploring our heritage and connection to the land of Israel, we knew that was a step toward the beginning of what would become our lives.
