Sitting snuggled against each other. a mother and baby turn pages of a brightly colored board book. The baby reaches and momentarily pouts after unsuccessfully maneuvering his mouth closer to the slightly worn corner. The mother, unshaken by the brief setback, continues and leans in even closer to her baby’s cheek as she names each image on the next page and the two settle in to a quiet moment of togetherness.

Whether it’s a mom, dad or grandparent, it’s a scene that may play out in many homes across the Imperial Valley. If spending more time with a child or children is a goal for the new year, incorporating story time is a great way to make that happen.
