EL CENTRO – More than three years after a splashy press conference announcing plans to build a new California Highway Patrol office here, ground for the $40 million project could finally be broken later this fall, a state official reported Wednesday.

The state-of-art nearly 30,000-square-foot facility is planned for the west side of South Fourth Street near Danenberg Drive. It will replace the current Highway Patrol El Centro Area office at 2331 N. Highway 86 in Imperial.
