Imperial County on Thursday celebrated the 100th anniversary of the legislation that established a nationwide community education system and led to the creation of Imperial Valley's branch of the University of California Cooperative Extension.

Cooperative Extension was created in 1914 to strengthen rural communities and to make available to farmers the latest in university research. Nearly every county in California has a branch.
