EL CENTRO — A comedy production company and a barber institute aren’t exactly two entities one would expect to help local students prepare for the upcoming school year. However, locally based Wasupwu Comedy and the Learning Institute of Southern California did just that Saturday, as they teamed up to provide 50 students with free back-to-school haircuts.

Wasupwu paid for 25 haircuts, while the Learning Institute opened the doors to its facility on Park Avenue and supplied the rest — all for the sake of helping Valley families prepare their students for the school year, the institute’s director, Fernando Lynn, explained.
