The Imperial Irrigation District continues to warn customers to be vigilant against con artists who call account holders and demand money, threatening to turn off the victim’s power should they not comply by placing cash on a prepaid debit card accessible to the scammer.

“First of all, if [customers] do get that type of phone call, [do] not follow the instructions,” Henry Martinez, IID energy manager, told Imperial Valley Press Tuesday afternoon. “Do call our call center for verification.”
