Farmer of the Year

BRAWLEY — It is perhaps a testament to the stoicism of Valley pioneers, a desert locale, that generations later transform a formerly barren land to become the leading agricultural region of the nation.

The 12th annual Jim Kuhn Memorial Farmer of the Year Banquet welcomed 300 guests at the Stockmen’s Club on Thursday evening to honor one of its most distinguished community members. Ben Abatti Sr. was recognized as the Farmer of the Year for 2016. He demonstrates the very characteristics the award’s namesake typified: innovation, longevity in the industry and community involvement.
