A sign designating a portion of Interstate 8 the Jimmy A. Arevalo

A sign designating a portion of Interstate 8 the Jimmy A. Arevalo Memorial Highway has been erected in honor of the Calexico teacher’s decades of service to others.

Dool Elementary Principal Liliana Dimian was traveling back from San Diego recently when she saw the highway sign honoring Jimmy Arevalo, a much-loved Calexico teacher who was fatally struck in a 2012 traffic accident.

“I think it’s wonderful. It’s quite a tribute to the man he was, always helping and always eager to help. It’s nice to see he’s remembered,” she said. “To see his name there, it’s really brought back memories. For me, it was an emotional moment to see it.”
