Since 1967, the famed flight demonstration squadron of the U.S. Navy has called Naval Air Facility El Centro its winter home, thanks in part to then-El Centro Mayor DuBois McGee.

In 1966, McGee was visiting the Blue Angels’ permanent home in Pensacola, Fla., when he learned they had a dilemma practicing there during the winter because it rained.
