EL CENTRO — The first time Denny Lang conducted Handel’s “Messiah” in Imperial Valley was Dec. 13, 1959, at Brawley’s Palmer Auditorium.

“Imperial Valley for the first time will have ‘Messiah’ performed by a massed choir of some 300 voices Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. in Brawley,” this newspaper reported four days prior, on Dec. 9.
