IMPERIAL—Imperial Valley College President/Superintendent Dr. Martha Garcia told students participating in the college’s 57th commencement exercises on Saturday she had a good idea what they were experiencing at the moment.

“As a proud alumnus, I can relate to you students, and I understand what today’s celebration means to you, your families and your loved ones,” Garcia said. “As a first-generation college graduate and proud daughter of farm workers, I personally understand the challenges that some of you have endured while aspiring to achieve your educational goals and ultimately your dreams.
