EL CENTRO — Calexico resident Marcela Davila first remembers “practicing law” as a 7-year-old. Though she didn’t have a law degree, she did have her grandfather’s briefcase, which was enough to imagine herself a lawyer.

Briefcase in hand, Davila rounded up some friends to put on an imaginary trial. It proved to be their only one, since Davila’s argumentative manner appeared to have annoyed them, she said.
