Local unemployment rises while state trends lower

EL CENTRO — While the state unemployment rate fell to a new record low for October, the unemployment rate in Imperial County moved in the opposite direction.

Statewide, employers added 23,600 nonfarm jobs, helping drop the California unemployment rate to 3.9 percent, the lowest rate in a data series going back to the 1970s.
