BRAWLEY — In the realm of things parents don’t want to hear their child say, “Mommy, I just got bit by a rattlesnake,” has to rank right near the top.

Yet, on Nov. 6, that is precisely what Cassie Hamlin heard after her 7-year-old daughter, Blayke, came in from the backyard after letting the family’s pet boxer out. Hamlin went out to check and, sure enough, there was a diamondback rattler, coiled and ready to strike again.
