EL CENTRO — Imperial County Farm Bureau President Tom Brundy has dealt with foul weather, stubborn cattle, broken equipment and more, but none of this likely prepared him for the unfiltered candor of preschool and elementary kids.

Brundy, a hay and cattle producer who owns Tom’s Hay Farm in Calexico, was one of 21 Imperial Valley farmers who participated Friday in the second annual Read With a Farmer Day, put together by the University of California Farm Smart Program in partnership with Imperial County Farm Bureau, Imperial Valley Vegetable Growers Association and Imperial Valley Water (IVH2O).
