It was a sad day for the farm community last week when three IID directors, Galindo, Cardenas and Ortega, further drove a wedge between Imperial Valley farmers and the IID board in a purely political move when they each fired two members from the Water Conservation Advisory Board. Some of the fired WCAB members had never even met the IID director that released them, despite attempts made by the WCAB member. One member received his walking papers at an address of a farmer he had not worked for since 2014.

Sadly, each of the six members received identical letters, none of which provided reasons for the removals. All told, the six WCAB members represented over 100 years of service to the IID on an advisory level. None of the WCAB members were contacted directly by their director, nor was the WCAB chairman notified which members had been released. Additionally, new appointments have not yet been made, which will result in trouble reaching a quorum for future meetings.
