EL CENTRO — Although Thursday afternoon’s groundbreaking and naming ceremony for the city of El Centro’s newest park was open to the public, the crowd in attendance was mostly made up of uniformed first responders.

This turned out to be fitting, as the name chosen for the park among the four submitted by the community paid special tribute to the police, firefighter and other emergency services workers.
