Planning to head to Mexicali to celebrate New Year's Eve? You probably won't be alone, as our southern neighbor has long been a destination point for revelry. Although countless people make regular visits to Mexicali without ever encountering any kind of problem, New Year's Eve celebrations can bring an increased risk to international travelers and added caution is advised. At any rate, here are some useful tips to help you maximize your fun and stay safe at the same time, courtesy of the U.S. State Department, the Mexican Consulate in Calexico and IV Press staff.

— Keep a low profile and avoid any unnecessary display of wealth. While this certainly isn't meant to prohibit anyone from wearing their finest clothing and accessories while down south, it is meant to act as a warning against overt displays of wealth around strangers.
