Salton Sea policy chief promises to overcome delays

Efforts to reach a year one milestone for the 10-year first phase of the Salton Sea management program are behind, it was revealed Tuesday, but state officials were assured that the agency charged with meeting those milestones will catch up by 2022.

Bruce Wilcox, the state’s assistant secretary in charge of Salton Sea policy, told the state Water Resources Control Board on Tuesday at the control board’s meeting in Sacramento that a goal of addressing 500 acres of exposed playa, or sea bed, at the Salton Sea would not be met this year.
