EL CENTRO — Lyft driver Oscar Galindo never thought he was doing anything wrong when he picked up a fare the night of March 18 in Brawley, but his passenger turned out to be an illegal immigrant.

When Galindo, 35, a lifelong El Centro resident, tried to drive through the checkpoint, he and his passenger were stopped and detained for several hours.
