Swiss Club Member Hans K. Vogel often asked his father why he made the move from Switzerland to the Imperial Valley, to which his father always replied: “Because it was the land of opportunity.”

It may be difficult for many to envision the Imperial Valley as the land of opportunity, with the extreme heat and more recent high unemployment rate, but for many immigrants who first settled here it was exactly that — an opportunity.
