Unemployment rates for July were released by the California State Employment Development Department and Imperial County was ranked 58th out of the 58 counties in the state.

The rate of unemployment for July rose to 24.2 percent from 23.8 percent in June. Yet that is lower than the 27.4 percent recorded a year ago at this time. Unemployment for California was 5.5 percent, up one-tenth a percentage point from June and for the U.S. at 4.9 percent.
