A 60-year-old Holtville man drowned Monday afternoon in a canal at the intersection of Kamm and Holt roads, county coroner’s office announced Wednesday.

Felipe Cerda entered the canal on purpose in an attempt to retrieve something when he fatally drowned, ICSO deputy W.B. Caldwell explained. No suspicious circumstances surrounded his death.
