A staunch opponent of illegal immigration, Jose Alvarez became rather upset upon hearing that migrant families apprehended in Texas’ Rio Grande Valley were going to be transported to the Valley for processing. When no local official stepped up to make explicit demands that the federal government stop transporting the migrant families here, the 57-year-old Imperial resident only became further upset, he recalled.

”These people can’t come over here and get everything for free,” Alvarez said. “It’s all going to cost us.”
