IID, CAISO differences could hinder geothermal development

Hudson Ranch 1 Geothermal Facility in Niland on Feb. 6, 2012.

The differences between the Imperial Irrigation District and the California Independent System Operator that have resulted to the filing of a lawsuit from IID, could also have a collateral impact on the geothermal industry’s ability to expand in the future.

According to IID’s governmental affairs officer Antonio Ortega, the conflict between CAISO and IID began in 2011, when CAISO began to lower the district’s maximum import capacity every year without giving the IID a satisfactory answer as to why that was the case.
