We would like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation and thanks to Chief Flores, Chief Morales and all the Imperial County firefighters, along with those from other communities in San Diego County and Yuma. We also want to thank Imperial County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol, Red Cross and other first responders who worked on the scene during the night of the five-alarm fire that threatened residents, guests’ homes and facilities at Rio Bend RV & Golf Resort and Storm’s Crossing Estates Manufactured Home Community.
Because of your speedy response time and clear and continuous communication with Manager Larry Kalas, both properties were effectively and efficiently evacuated with no injuries. There was no loss of homes or RV homes, and the damage to property was limited to the golf course, which, considering the magnitude of the fire, was very minimal.
There are 500 guest sites at Rio Bend RV & Golf Resort, along with more than 30 units in the storage area. There are 57 family homes at Storm’s Crossing Estates MHC. All were kept safe due to the diligence, dedication and excellent attention to detail of the firefighters all night long.
We want to thank you also for continuing to monitor and put out hot spots and flare-ups throughout the following week. There are not enough words to express the gratitude and relief we all felt when we were able to return to our homes to find them whole and unscathed.
We do not thank you all nearly enough for putting your lives on the line daily, but this business and community of people here in the bend of the river will be forever indebted to you.
