In 1970, the United States spent $76 billion on healthcare expenditures. In 2017, the U.S. government spent over $1.5 trillion on healthcare costs. Most of this expenditure went to fund federal programs such as Medicare and Medicaid.

Today, America spends more money on healthcare than any other nation on earth, by a long shot. So it is surprising to know that in 2017 America ranked No. 1 in the world in obesity rates.
