I want my hotdog on a bun, not a croissant. I want my apple pie crisp and flaky, not thick and spongy. And I certainly don’t want a fried damn egg on my cheeseburger.
Unfortunately, such wishes often aren’t granted when one is overseas on the Fourth of July. Yes, our hosts and various restaurants in Spain, Italy and Ireland have tried over the years to make us traditional “American food” on our Independence Day, but they have, almost uniformly, failed.
