LIFE OUT HERE: Shutting up would work

Sometimes a guy, usually a big offensive tackle but sometimes a cocky tight end, would come out mouth ablaze, talking trash, running smack.

This was freshmen and junior-varsity level football, but at a top high school level. I was an outside linebacker on defense on those JV and freshmen teams and played most of the time. My memories of this sensation of the loudmouthed lout are mostly at the lower levels, because I was largely a special teams guy and too small for linebacker on the varsity level. That meant when I did get in on defense in varsity ball, I usually played safety, pretty far from the trenches.
