The Mex Factor: The increased cost of visiting Baja

Arturo Bojorquez

Every year, especially during holidays, thousands of Americans love to spend time in Baja California coastal cities.

Whether it’s Presidents Day, Memorial Day or Fourth of July, many Americans prefer to have nice long weekends in Ensenada, Rosarito Beach or Tijuana, where the weather is similar to California coasts, or San Felipe, whose warmer beaches attract travelers from other parts of the United States. Every single time visitors pay for their hotel rooms, they directly contribute to state coffers by paying a special tax.
