Brooks Jewelry building fire

EL CENTRO -- The El Centro Police Department is asking the public for any information related to a suspected arson fire that was reported at 3:30 a.m. Monday at the Brooks Jewelry building in downtown. 

A male subject with a ladder was reportedly observed on a BMX bicycle riding away from the building at the southeast corner of Main and Sixth streets around the time of the incident, the ECPD reported.

The male subject was described as wearing black clothing and riding north on Sixth Street, a press release stated.

The fire was reportedly confined to the second story of the building, although it prompted the closure of several adjacent businesses and Main Street between Seventh and Fifth streets,

Temporary power outages were also reported as a result of the blaze, ECPD reported.
