BRAWLEY — A 36-year-old Brawley resident, who is a Calipatria Prison correctional officer, was arrested Thursday for alleged lewd acts involving a minor.
Gilbert Carpio was taken into custody at 11 a.m. at an undisclosed location on Bell Court by Brawley police officers and booked into county jail on a $750,000 bail on suspicion of sexual offense/lewd acts by force on a child under the age 14 and possession/manufacturing of child pornography, county Sheriff's Office arrest records stated.
At around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, Brawley Police Department responded to an allegation of possession of child pornography.
During the course of the investigation, evidence was located indicating criminal acts had occurred and involved three children under the age of ten, a BPD news release stated.
With the assistance of the Imperial Valley Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, led by the Homeland Security Investigations unit, and the Investigative Services Unit of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Carpio was arrested.
Carpio was taken into custody while on-duty as a correctional official at the CDCR Calipatria Prison facility, the news release stated.
