HOLTVILLE – An Imperial County Sheriff’s Deputy was injured at about 9 p.m. Wednesday at an undisclosed location in Holtville while reportedly responding to a domestic dispute.

"An incident occurred in Holtville this evening involving an Imperial County Sheriff’s Office deputy tasked to the City of Holtville and an individual he had contacted for suspected criminal activity," said Holtville City Manager Nicholas Wells in a release. "Gunshots were fired. Neither party was struck by the gunfire, however the deputy was injured in the scuffle when the individual struck him in the head with an unknown object.

"The perpetrator fled the scene, but was apprehended shortly thereafter and put in custody. The deputy was lucid and stable, but life-flighted out for treatment and in exercising abundant caution," Wells said.

ICSO Lt. Jimmy Duran said the deputy was flown to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs with unspecified injuries.

Neither the victim's or the suspect's names had been released as of press time.

No further details were immediately available.
